1/5 Republicans would vote for Obama

trulybadtiming:

Even conservative voters hate the clowns running for the GOP nomination. I like this.

It really says something about how bat-shit crazy your candidates are when your own party won’t vote for them.

“We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto.” - Newt Gingrich in 2008. (Video here. Bonus: He tries to apologize in Spanish afterwards.)

I don’t understand this kind of racism. I honestly don’t. I’m appalled that the only language I can speak is English. I’ve made efforts to learn Spanish, Japanese, German, and Russian, but not until I was well into my teens and language just becomes harder to learn the older you get, so I haven’t gotten very far. Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah, Gingrich is a racist asshole.

People don’t hate Newt Gingrich because he cheated on two wives - they hate him because he did that while campaigning on “family values” and “the sanctity of traditional marriage.”

stfuconservatives:

seriouslyamerica:

Why is this so hard to understand? It’s the hypocrisy, not the [presumably consensual] sex.

^ YES. It’s shitty that he cheated on two wives and left them when they were terminally ill. But it’s politically reprehensible that he would claim to be the “values candidate” who will protect the “sanctity of marriage” after doing it.

And while trying to get Clinton impeached for cheating on his wife …

Exclusive: Gingrich Lacks Moral Character to Be President, Ex-Wife Says

stfuconservatives:

timekiller-s:

Observation: I guess apparently you can join the Catholic Church after being very public about being twice-divorced, divorce being something that would mean expulsion from said church? Catholics, please explain, thanks.

In the meantime …

In her most provocative comments, the ex-Mrs. Gingrich said Newt sought an “open marriage” arrangement so he could have a mistress and a wife.

She said when Gingrich admitted to a six-year affair with a Congressional aide, he asked her if she would share him with the other woman, Callista, who is now married to Gingrich.

“And I just stared at him and he said, ‘Callista doesn’t care what I do,’” Marianne Gingrich told ABC News. “He wanted an open marriage and I refused.”

Marianne described her “shock” at Gingrich’s behavior, including how she says she learned he conducted his affair with Callista “in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington.”

“He always called me at night,” she recalled, “and always ended with ‘I love you.’ Well, she was listening.”

All this happened, she said, during the same time Gingrich condemned President Bill Clinton for his lack of moral leadership.

Bold emphasis is mine on that last bit. This is ultimately the point where GOP family-values hypocrites have no fucking business being the morality police since it’s been proven time and time and time again that some of the biggest, screechiest morality avatars don’t practise what they preach.

How do we know that Newt isn’t sleeping around on Callista either?

Hope I’ll be able to catch the whole interview online. It will air Thursday night on ABC’s Nightline.

The Catholic church really doesn’t care. Their whole thing is, pretty much since their inception, forgiving people who pray enough (and more importantly donate enough) can absolve themselves of any wrong-doing.

None of this story is all that new but it’ll be a fun companion piece to tonight’s debate.

Newt Gingrich’s top 3 flip-flops (personally I hate that buzzword but these are fundamental changes in political opinion) courtesy of Think Progress.

You see, this is why he’s the current front-runner. He has no platform or opinions. He simply says whatever is currently favoured by the ever more insane conservative base and claims to be on whichever side of an issue will get him more votes from the incredibly deluded public.

"I repudiate, and I call on the President to repudiate, the concept of the 99 and the 1. It is un-American, it is divisive, it is historically false…"

Newt Gingrich

Somehow I don’t feel like President Obama is eager to heed the calls of Newt “let’s replace unionized janitors with schoolchildren” Gingrich.

Not even “not really.” That is exactly what he just suggested.

It’s over.

Summary:

  • Rick Perry had a meltdown. His train of thought derailed multiple times and he was slurring his words slightly.
  • Mitt Romney’s hair was jauntily tousled and he probably gets a boost from this.
  • Herman Cain proved he’s not a misogynist by referring to Rep. Nancy Pelosi as “Princess Nancy” and gave Jim Cramer a stroke by referencing 9-9-9 when Cramer said specifically not to at all.
  • Michele Bachmann insulted poor people by saying they could pay taxes by buying “two less Happy Meals.”
  • Ron Paul suggested students pay for college like they pay for cell phones and that getting rid of student loans will make the price go down. He alternated between Grandpa Simpson and soothsayer.
  • Rick Santorum was lost because he couldn’t talk about abortions and gay people killing America.
  • Newt Gingrich got his ass handed to him by moderators for claiming “media is not reporting accurately how the economy works.” At a CNBC debate.
  • Jon Huntsman was the grown-up in the room, reminding everyone Americans watching this debate are hurting. They’re losing their jobs, their houses, and there’s no simple solution. He had ideas versus talking points. So he’s going to sink further than 1% in the polls.

Flawless summary.

Like I said last time, Comedy Central seriously needs to hold one of these debates. Moderated by John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. They are pure comedy.
